Summer is one of the best times of the year here at AFU. We absolutely love hosting summer camps! We have so much fun getting to know the kids and seeing their creativity bloom. Personally, I think one of the best things about being a kid is their ability to just lose themselves in whatever is going on. A tv show, a book, an art project. They aren't thinking about unpaid bills or a jerk at their office. So for our summer camps, we try to come up with projects that will hold their attention and make their imagination soar. I think it's so important for kids to be able to use their creativity and do something that isn't related to school, technology, or competition. Something that is good, old fashioned fun! And it is so wonderful to see how proud they are of the awesome art they create. Whenever they eat off of their plate or see their canvas hung on the wall, they will remember the fun they had and feel a sense of pride that their art is being used or displayed in their home. And we do our best to make sure they come home with projects that parents will be proud to display as well!
Our first camp's theme is Around the World in 5 Days! Each day we will focus on a different country - using their art, culture, and food as inspiration for our projects. This camp is for girls and boys 5 to 12. We will use different painting techniques and mediums to create fun and beautiful art! The countries will be France, Japan, Italy, Mexico, and Australia. I think my favorite project for this week is a canvas painting that we will use acrylic paint to mimic Van Gough's starry night background, then cut out petals and leaves and use colored pencil to create a 3D Van Gough sunflower. It is going to be absolutely beautiful and so easy for the kids to create! For this camp, we will be painting pottery as well as projects on canvas, paper, and a few 3D pieces that will be a blast. We will definitely get some fun themed snacks for this one.
Our last camp is a crowd favorite - Movie Week. We have done this every year, and it always ends up being our most popular camp. We will use movies that are popular now or coming out around the time of our camp and create pottery projects as well as paper, canvas, clay, and board art that go with the movie. Each day will be a different movie - Trolls World Tour, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, Scoob, and How to Train your Dragon! This camp is perfect for boys and girls 5 to 12. My favorite project from this camp is definitely the Mystery Machine piggy bank. It is so stickin' cute. You better believe I'm keeping that sample after camp is over! We will also be making slime. Slime is a camper favorite and a counselor least favorite, but hey, we get to make a really cute jar to keep it in, so all is not lost.
Summer camp at All Fired Up was truly one of my favorite things as a kid. I really believe in the power of artistic expression, and what parent doesn't want beautiful and functional art to display made by their child? And not to mention getting your kid out of the house for a few hours in the summer. You are also supporting a local small business. You're not helping to pay for a rich man's yacht, you're helping my family and our wonderful employees, who pour their hearts into these projects and your children. We all genuinely care about art and providing the best experience and instruction that we possibly can. So here are the logistics:
You'll register your child here on the website. Each camp is $225 per child. You will pay for all 5 days at once, if this does not work for you, let us know! We can work with you. Your payment is refundable if you cancel at least 30 days before the first day of camp. If you cancel within two weeks of the start date, we will give you 50% back. For less than two weeks, you will get 50% of your payment in store credit.
You will give us a list of people allowed to pick up your child, and you will sign him or her in and out each day. Please make sure that you are picking your child up within 15 minutes of the end time, and not dropping your child off any earlier than 15 minutes before the start. If you need to arrange a late stay or early drop off, please contact us. We will be glad to work something out.
We will provide a light snack for your child each day. If your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know at the time of sign up. Feel free to pack your child any extra food or drink, we will store it in our fridge until snack time.
Your child will be able to take most of their projects home on the last day of camp. Some of the projects that must be glazed and fired may take a little longer, so we will call or text you when those are ready.
This year, we are limiting our camps to just 8 campers per session. This will help us keep a social distance between campers. Our instructors will be wearing masks through the entire camp. We will not be sharing tools or materials. We will be cleaning thoroughly in between the morning and afternoon sessions. Your campers are not required to wear a mask, but may do so if you are more comfortable that way. Health and safety are our top priorities for these camps, followed only by FUN!
All three of our instructors, Abby Kate, Elizabeth and Farris, have worked at summer camps (either here or elsewhere) in the past, love art, and LOVE kids! They are so excited to get to know your little ones.
